Frequently asked questions

Full Body Massage

Is a full body massage painful?

It's not unusual to feel some soreness after a massage, which is due to a release of lactic acid in the muscles - but it doesn't last long. You may also have some discomfort during your massage. This depends on the area we're working on and if there any pre-existing pains. I can always use less pressure at any time if it’s too uncomfortable.

Do I have to take my clothes off?

No. Only remove clothing only as far as you feel comfortable. I will leave the room while you're undressing and will provide towels and blankets to cover you during the massage.

Should I have a full body massage if I’m not in pain?

Massage therapy is a great natural solution when you want relief from pain, but it can also be used as a preventive treatment too as well as promoting deep relaxation and welling:

  • Lower cortisol and raise serotonin levels to calm and relax your body.
  • Loosen tight muscles, which may increase blood flow, leading to lowering your blood pressure.
What if I fall asleep and drool or snore?

Don’t worry. It’s normal to fall asleep during a massage. You might be feeling stressed and sleep-deprived, so falling asleep is normal once you're in a relaxed state. Drooling is also common, especially if you're on your front. I always keep tissues to hand.

What'll happen at my first fully body massage?

I'll ask you to fill out a health history form to let me know about any current concerns or goals you want me to deal with. I’ll give you privacy to make yourself comfortable – whether you decide to remove your clothing or not. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask them.

Isn't massage just to help you to relax?

Massage is excellent for relaxation, but it also has many other benefits. Massage helps with chronic muscle aches and pains. It helps to reduce stress and ease muscle tension. It's also great to improve circulation, alleviate breathing problems, lower your blood pressure, reduce headaches, improve your daily mobility and wellbeing, and help you manage anxiety and depression. Massage also helps to promote good, healthy sleep.

Is it okay to ask for more – or – less pressure?

Of course! I will check in with you during your massage to make sure the pressure is okay.

How long is a full body massage treatment?

Treatment lasts either 50 mins for £60.00 or 30 mins for £35.00.

How will I feel after treatment?

By the end of the session you may feel tired, relaxed and clear headed. Alternatively, you may feel energised or have heightened emotions. These are all normal reactions to the treatment.

What aftercare advice should I follow?

To experience the best outcome after treatment, it is important to drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and rest. This will allow your body to expel waste products and recover.

Indian Head Massage

Who should get an Indian Head Massage?

Indian head massage is a versatile therapy that can benefit many individuals. Whether you’re a busy professional, a senior citizen, a student, or someone dealing with chronic health issues, this massage technique can be tailored to suit your needs and provide relief and relaxation.

What happens during an Indian Head massage?

You will remain clothed and comfortably seated in a chair or lying down. The massage typically includes work on the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp, and face, using a variety of techniques like acupressure, stroking, and kneading.

Reflexology

How does Reflexology work?

Reflexology brings your body back into balance. There are thousands of nerve endings in your feet which correspond to and send messages about specific parts of the body to and from your brain. Any blockages in nerve and/or blood supply can be released and your circulation is boosted which enables your body to heal.

What should I wear?

Loose, casual and comfortable clothing is recommended. You will be reclined in my reflexology chair and want to be able to relax without tight clothing or belts digging in.

Does Reflexology hurt?

It shouldn’t hurt but you may feel some discomfort if I find an area that is out of balance or congested. The discomfort will only last a short time as I work through the congestion and if necessary, move on and return to rework the area later in the treatment.

What information will you need from me?

I will ask you about your medical history, lifestyle, current health and some more general information about yourself so that I can build up a holistic view of you to adapt the treatment to best meet your needs. Any information given will be kept strictly confidential. In some circumstances you may be asked to sign an informed consent form.

I have ticklish feet, can I still have reflexology?

Yes, we have various options as to how to proceed. Reflexology is not a gentle massage; it involves various degrees of pressure and probing certain reflex points – most clients I have treated who have worried about ticklish feet have been able to settle into the treatment without any problems. However, if we find an area on the feet is just ‘too tickly to treat’ we can switch to using hand reflexology, so you receive a full treatment.

How will I feel afterwards?

Everyone reacts differently with most clients feeling relaxed and calm. I will give you some after-care advice to help maximise the treatment and suggestions as to how you might continue to work on any areas that have come to light.

Can you diagnose what’s wrong with me?

No. As a reflexologist I am not able to diagnose or cure medical conditions. Your feet may indicate areas that are congested or out of balance within your body and we will be able to discuss what we find but if you have questions regarding a medical condition, you should see your G.P.
